2018 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
Elise has been a 2-year varsity letterman and has been playing tennis for 6 years. She played Line 3 singles and Line 2 Doubles in the fall, and she played Line 1 singles in the spring. She was the District Champion in Singles her freshman year. She was the MVP for the Capital Area Tennis Association for GHS and is now a Champ rated player in the USTA 18’s Junior Program. She is a 3rd degree black belt and was also awarded the Sportsmanship & Attitude Award at the UT Tennis Camp. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta and a UIL Math award winner. She has volunteered her time as a Sunday School Teacher, a Junior Tennis Coordinator and distributed food at the Caring Place. She will be attending the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and will studying Mechanical Engineering to pursue a career in the design of the next generation of Automotive & Aerospace Parts.
Philip has been a 3-year varsity letterman and has been playing tennis for 9 years. He played mixed doubles in the fall and the spring this year, finishing 4th at Districts. He and his mixed partner finished 2nd at Districts in 2017 and qualified for Regionals. He has participated in the Georgetown Teen Court as an attorney for the past 3 years and has volunteered his time with the Honor Flight Austin group in helping veterans for the past 3 years as well. He was awarded the “Best Male Speaker” award, the “Most Outstanding First Year Attorney” for Teen Court and won 3rd Place at the Association of Texas Mock Trial Competition. He is active in the Interact Club, the Blue Crew, the Student Council, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society and The Locker. He is a Rotary Club Scholar for his senior year and has been in the Top 10% of his class throughout high school. He will be attending The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this fall and will double major in Business Management and Philosophy. He has plans to then attend law school to hopefully practice criminal law.
Alex has been a 3-year varsity letterman and has been playing tennis for 11 years. He played line 1 doubles in the fall and in the spring and finished 4th at Districts this year. He was 1st Team All District in Doubles and was Academic All-District in 2016 & 2017. He is an Eagle Scout with many volunteer hours through the Boy Scouts of America and through many mission trips through his church. He was also awarded the Troop 405 Leadership Award in 2016. He has also balanced his time successfully with tennis & school while working many part-time jobs throughout his high school career as well. He will be attending the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn to begin his academic pursuit of a degree in Engineering.
Cole has been a 2-year varsity letterman and has been playing tennis for 5 years. He played line 2 doubles both in the fall and the spring. In 2017, he and his partner qualified for Regionals & was 2nd Team All-District. This year he finished 4th at District. He was a member of the 2017 Junior Team Tennis Sectional Championship Team and a National Finalist as well. He graduated from the Georgetown Junior Leadership Program and also managed to find time to work in many part-time jobs throughout his high school career. He is a Producer in the Broadcasting Program for many projects and even wrote and published a book entitled, “The Dragon’s Pendant.” He volunteered and served over 200 hours in support of the First United Methodist Church, including time as a camp counselor for the Vacation Bible School Program. He will be attending the University of North Texas this fall and pursuing a career in Computer Science & Engineering.
Drew has been a 2-year varsity letterman and has been playing tennis for 4 years. This year he played line 3 singles and doubles in the fall and played line 2 singles in the spring. He is a USTA 18’s Champ Player ranked in the Top 50 in the State. He won JV Districts in Singles when he was a Sophomore, 3rd place in varsity in mixed doubles as a Junior and finished 3rd at Districts this year in Singles. He’s been very active in his community service efforts volunteering his time at the Boy & Girls Club, the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, Meals on Wheels, First Presbyterian Church and on a Mission Trip to Mobile, AL. He is a member of the National Honor Society, on the ACC President’s Honor Role and the winner of the Jack Frost Citizenship Award and a Jack Frost Merit Scholar. He has also led a couple of incredible Capstone Independent Research studies, one on The Use of Canines in the Courtroom and one on The Effects of Table Tennis on the Elderly. Both of these studies have been published and are an incredible achievement of his efforts in his “spare time.” He will be attending Cornell College this fall and will play collegiate tennis while obtaining a degree in Political Science with the career goal of becoming an attorney (and he might possibly pursue a career in politics).
Courtney has been a 3-year varsity letterman and has been playing tennis for 6 years. She played line 3 singles and line 1 doubles in the fall, and played mixed doubles in the spring. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and has been in the top 10% of her class throughout high school. She is the Vice-President of the Student Council and has also been in Varsity Orchestra (with superior ratings) all 4 years of high school. She has been volunteering her time in school programs such as STAAR WARS and Fresh Fest, along with helping to run tennis practices in the summer for EVHS. She has also volunteered at a local veterinary hospital, following her passion and getting a good understanding of a possible career path in Veterinary Medicine. She will be attending Texas A&M University in the fall to study Biomedical Sciences with a goal of starting a career in Veterinarian Medicine and getting her PhD.
Cale has been a 3-year varsity letterman and has been playing tennis for 11 years. He played mixed doubles in the spring and played Line 4 singles and Line 2 doubles in the fall semester. He is the President of the National Honor Society, a Varsity Choir Officer, a Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society Member, a Commended National Merit Scholar, the EVHS Tennis Team Captain, and Ranked #1 Academically in the senior class. He has participated in many community service efforts including the Youth Worship Band at the Main Street Baptist Church, a Vacation Bible School Leader, tutoring elementary school students in math and science and volunteered his time in the Relay for Life and Chase the Chief 5K Run events. He led the Children’s Tennis Camps at Georgetown CC and has also led the “Monday Night Open Courts” Program at East View in the summer of 2017. He will be attending Texas Christian University on a Provost Scholarship this fall and will be studying Pre-Med/Biology to pursue Medical School after college.
